F.C. Hansa Rostock, one of Germany’s most traditional football clubs, runs a large fan shop serving both stadium visitors and online customers. The project’s goal was to ensure long-term technical stability and performance while laying the foundation for continuous development. Matchdays bring peak traffic loads, requiring a highly reliable infrastructure. Key milestones included the migration to Scalecommerce hosting, upgrading to Shopware 6.6, and implementing fan-focused features such as a 3D jersey configurator, optimized interfaces, and an improved user experience. Challenges like peak loads, checkout errors, and strict security requirements were successfully addressed during implementation.
The shop is built on Shopware 6 with custom plugin developments and server-side optimizations. Migrating to Scalecommerce ensured the ability to handle matchday traffic peaks. A cache-control system was added to further boost performance and stability. ERP integration was achieved with Actindo, while Pickware manages warehouse and shipping logistics. Payment solutions included PayOne and PayPal, with Amazon Pay removed due to low demand.
Instead of a full redesign, the shop was gradually refined. Improvements focused on the checkout and payment processes, significantly reducing cart abandonment. Frontend input validations prevent user errors, while social-sharing features increase fan engagement across social media. The design remains fan-centric and closely aligned with the club’s identity.
A major highlight is the 3D jersey configurator powered by Fux 3D, enabling fans to personalize jerseys with names, numbers, and logos – with dynamic pricing based on options. The Unidy plugin was extended to improve customer management. A mobile POS channel was introduced for stadium sales, synchronizing seamlessly with the online shop. Additionally, returns management was enhanced via Actindo integration, ensuring smooth and transparent processes for fans.
The project significantly improved shop performance, particularly during matchday traffic spikes. Through targeted caching strategies and server optimizations, the fan shop is now faster, more stable, and more secure. Optimizations in the checkout process boosted the conversion rate while reducing cart abandonment. With its modern, scalable architecture, Hansa Rostock has built a future-proof foundation that meets both e-commerce requirements and fan expectations. Features such as the 3D configurator and mobile POS provide real added value and strengthen fan loyalty.
